The French version was first released in France on 24 June 1997 by Columbia Records, while the English version was later released internationally by major label Sony Music Entertainment in 33 countries throughout Asia, Europe, and America between late 1997 to early 1999.

The album was released in July 1998 and, as expected, July soared to the top of the French album charts, selling over 500,000 copies almost immediately and reaching the one million mark a year later.
